Who here is ready to say goodbye to Summer? Not me, it’s been an absolute scorcher. From festivals & seeing family to getting to grips with Tiktok. This Summer has flown by.
I always get that same feeling come September like I need a full on overhaul of stationery, some new shoes perhaps? And I think I know what that feeling is…… back to school vibes!
A lot goes into the preparation of a fresh new school year. Things have changed, you might have transitioned into BIG school with a brand new uniform, a very different routine & some friends from Primary might attend a different school now.
There is no need to worry - change can be a good thing. We are even getting a new Prime Minister for September. Lots of people are beginning new jobs. This term will probably feel like a rollercoaster for some teachers returning to class too.
What I like most about this month is that you can view it as a starting line. A chance to get ready in the block, set some intentions & really go for it!
I have worked towards having my own Waggle Dance Creative Workshops and have found a new venue to be dancing in. It’s a very special place surrounded by 3 London boroughs; Islington, Haringey & Camden.
The closest tube station is Highgate, a Grade II listed building multi-arts centre previously a Wesleyan Methodist Church that has been transformed into a theatre, studios & has a lovely cafe. Jackson’s Lane is North London’s Creative Space. They have been supporting artists for over 40 years and it is officially the UK’s leading supporter of contemporary circus.
Quote from their website “Now-established names and companies, such as Complicite, The Mighty Boosh, Out of Joint and Frantic Assembly all developed work at Jacksons Lane.”
This place really is amazing with it’s rejuvenated dance studios & rehearsal rooms, you can hire their 168 seater theatre, have children’s parties & your own private functions there.
Now you know my plan is to be there for the October half term which I’m sure will be here before you can say pumpkin spiced latte.
It will be from 10am - 2pm over three days. From Monday 24th October to Wednesday 26th October we will be co-creating an original piece for very young artists.
By learning a variety of dance styles & exploring creative movements together I’m excited to be back in the studio getting to know the 7 - 13 year olds & start making some magic on the dancefloor.
I always find it much more interesting for them to choreograph in their own dance personality. It’s going to be fun. You can book on this link for just one day or all 3.
Waggle Dance Co provides storytelling & creative dance workshops. Our mission is to inspire, encourage & co-create with very young artists. We have an upcoming event at Jacksons Lane for October half term.
My aim is to make a positive impact on both physical & mental wellbeing for young people. Through creative dance we can give them a platform, an expressive outlet & a chance to perform their own choreography.
